A Lanham woman has reportedly
admitted to police that she ran over her husband with an SUV following a
domestic dispute, fatally pinning the man under the vehicle,
authorities say.
Prince George’s County Police on
Monday charged Araceli Alvarez-Mendoza, 37, of the 9400 block of Worrell
Avenue with murder in the case. The victim has been identified as
36-year-old, Fernando Fragoso-Duana.
The fatal
collision happened Sunday near the intersection of Seabrook Road and
Washington Boulevard after the couple argued. Police say Fragoso-Duana
left the home on foot, and his wife followed him in the SUV before
intentionally striking him with the vehicle.
"She ran him over. I sat there and I watched her, she did that on purpose," a
witness told News4. She opened her front door to find the wrecked
vehicle in her front yard, and said Mendoza stepped out of the SUV
screaming. Mendoza then tried to pull her husband from underneath the
vehicle to no avail.
The victim was pinned under the SUV, police say, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Alvarez-Mendoza is charged with first-degree murder and is in custody of the Department of Corrections.
